Business Management

YAKULT FACTORY TOUR

The year 11/12 Business Management class went to the Yakult factory this term as part of their Business Management Unit 3/4 course. The main focus of the trip was to gain a better understanding of the significance of Operations Management in a business.

The Yakult factory tour, included the viewing of the manufacturing facility and participation in the presentation on the product and the company.

The students saw how the modern machinery and the unique layout were used in a very efficient and productive way. They were surprised to hear that there are only 40 employees working in the Yakult factory (including the administration and the lab technicians). Yakult is distributed all around Australia including New Zealand from only the factory in Dandenong.

The students learnt that Yakult is a fermented milk drink that contains a very high concentration of a unique, beneficial bacterium called Lactobacillus casei Shirota strain. This bacterium was named after Dr Shirota and is exclusive to Yakult.

After the educational program about Yakult, each student was offered a sample of Yakult to taste. Some students had tasted it before but for others it was the first time. Most students enjoyed the taste of the citrus tangy taste of the unique milk drink.
